Born of the vision of His Royal Highness, Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, the Madman Trails in the Punakha valley are a network of both natural and hand-carved trails plummeting through a mix of blue pine and oak forests.
This trail system boasts an elevation drop of over 3,000ft and several routes down the mountain to suit both amateurs and Pro riders. Starting with high-speed berms and jumps the terrain soon steepens into winding endless switchbacks, plunging through natural gullies, rock-slab chutes and over drop offs before emerging into terraced paddie fields.
After each descent, bikers cross the longest suspension bridge in the Kingdom and chill out by the river near the stunning Punakha Dzong (Palace of Great Happiness)
Until it’s time to hop back in the truck for another lap!
In December 2021 (with any luck!) Bhutan will host a stage of the Asian Enduro Series with competitors set to race 6 stages of the “Madman Trails of Bhutan”.
