ABOUT US

About Us

The Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan was made for Mountain Biking and we’ve been riding here, pioneering trails, leading groups and spreading the good word since the 1990's.

Owner Ugyen Dorji and his brother Karma Lethro are two of the most accomplished MTB riders, guides and mechanics the kingdom has produced - the brothers’ mission is to promote biking as a force for good in Bhutan. In association with our UK-based sister company Guides of Bhutan Ltd (EGTH License No. 1026749), Kona Bikes Bhutan has become an integral part of the local mountain biking community.

Former monk and Bhutan Enduro Champion, Karma runs the shop and workshop while accomplished archer, Ugyen oversees our tour operation (we offer full DMC services for International and Bhutanese tour companies), media fixing service, outreach program and support of events such as the Asian Enduro Series and the Tour of the Dragon Race.

You are welcome to join them on their ceaseless quest for more awesome, untouched DH lines and XC trails.

ABOUT BHUTAN

About Bhutan

Also known as Drukyul (the realm of the Thunder Dragon), the Land Beyond the Sky & Clouds and the Last Shangri La - the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is our home in the Himalaya.

The chances are you may know something of Bhutan already – perhaps the fact that we have a great King, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck (a keen biker himself) and that we pursue Gross National Happiness (GNH) as opposed to GDP as a measure of our nation’s progress.

While just about every visitor mentions the spectacular final approach into Paro Airport, few folk would know that 80% of the kingdom remains under forest, tigers and snow leopards happily roam the land and we have a National Park for the protection of the Yeti (migoi).

You won’t encounter a single traffic light anywhere, marijuana grows wild to 8 feet tall and our patron saint is the Divine Madman who is celebrated with murals of huge, excited phalluses complete with hairy bollocks, emblazoned across walls.

As you might have gathered, our quirky country is a wild, happy, otherworldly, deeply spiritual and majestic mountain kingdom where tranquillity reigns and everything is off the beaten track – the perfect place for epic biking adventures!
